Castle/Inside

The Castle

The Sarre castle is a long manor-house. The building is situated on a large terrace supported by an arcade. From here, you can enjoy a wonderful view over the central part of the Aosta Valley, the Dora, the river which flows along all the region and some mountains.
In 1869 the king Vittorio Emanuele II bought the castle by the baron F. Ferrod.. Some stables were built and the tower was raised and transformed into an observatory. The king was keen on hunting and still today his numerous trophies adorn the rooms of the castle where you can also admire a lot of paintings representing the Savoia family, made by famous artists. Near the castle you can visit a chapel which houses some works of art.
